Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome symptoms
Symptoms may include:
- Pain in and around the knee cap
- Pain at the front of the knee which may refer to the back or side of the knee
- Associated ‘grating’ sensation of the knee cap
- Pain may increase when going up and down stairs, squatting and kneeling
- Pain may be aggravated when sitting for long periods of time when the knee is bent
- Pain worse when running on inclined surfaces
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome causes
Common causes of patellofemoral syndrome includes:
- Pronation or “flat feet”
- Supination or “high-arched feet”
- Biomechanical abnormality
- Increased exercise
- Increased activity
- Footwear
- Trauma
- Osteoarthritis
