Have you noticed your child walking differently, with their feet turning inward or seeming a little clumsier than their friends?
In-toeing, often called “pigeon-toed,” occurs when a child’s feet turn inward while walking. It’s a common condition in young children and usually resolves on its own. However, if you’re unsure or want reassurance, a podiatrist can assess their gait and provide guidance.
What causes Pigeon Toed?
Some causes can include the following:
- Habit
- Shortened or tight calf muscle
- Neurological conditions(eg. Cerebral Palsy)
- Over-active stretch reflex of the calf muscle, or
- Heel pain
It is important to have your child appropriately assessed by one of our expert podiatrists at Elite Podiatry to determine the cause and treat it accordingly.
Pigeon toe correction
Our podiatrists can undertake a full paediatric assessment of the lower limb to first identify any developmental issues and also identify the cause of the intoeing.
